Heres my animation that I made of Maui throwing Mahuikas fingernail of fire into the river.
How Maui brought fire to the world
One evening after eating a hangi maui lay there thinking to himself i wonder where fire comes from.
Maui was curious he had to find out where fire came from so in the middle of the night while everyone was fast asleep maui went from village to village and put out all the fires until not a single fire burned. He then went back to his marae and waited. The next morning all the people in the village were worried! How can we cook breakfast? Said one family how can we keep warm, another said. The people from the villages were worried there was no fire.
They asked Taranga and he said someone will have to go and see the god of fire Mahuika. None of the villagers wanted to go and see Mahuika so Maui decided he would go and see her glad that his plan had worked. Be careful said taranga she will not take you kindly if you try and trick her. Maui assured the villagers he would find Mahuika and bring fire back to the world.
Maui walked until he found the glowing red hot mountain at the base of the mountain maui saw a cave entrance. He entered the cave and out came Mahuika with fire burning from every part of her body. What brings you here Maui Mahuika asked. Maui said I have a problem all the fires have gone out and not one burns so I have come to you to ask for fire. Mahuika listened quietly to Maui and then she laughed. Mahuika pulled out one of her fingernails from her burning nails and handed it over to Maui. Take this back to your people as a gift from me she said.
Maui left the house holding the fingernail in his hands as Maui was walking back to the village he thought what if Mahuika had no fire left then what would she do. Maui couldn't resist it he quickly through it into the stream and headed back to Mahuikas cave. When he entered Mahuikas cave Mahukia turned around to see Maui standing right there. What do you ask from me now? asked Mahuika. Maui said I tripped and fell when I was heading back to the village and dropped your finger nail into the stream. May I have another one? Mahuika was in a good mood and she liked Maui so she gladly gave Maui another fingernail and Maui headed back to the village.
When Maui was heading back He stumbled across a puddle and decided to throw Mahuikas fingernail in the puddle of water. This continued for most of the day until Mahuika only had 1 finger nail left. Mahukia showed Maui how to make a fire by rubbing to sticks together. Later on that day when Maui returned to his village the villagers were confused because Maui didn't bring back fire instead he came back with wood and showed the villagers how to make a fire by rubbing two sticks together.
And that was how Maui brought fire to the world.
A 56 year old man was swallowed by a humpback whale in the us. After jumping off his boat in the water he felt a huge bump and everything went dark. At first he feared he was being attacked by a shark. He then felt around and couldn't feel any teeth and he then realised that he was in a whale's mouth. He said he thought he was going to die and he kept on saying to himself I'm going to die. Then all of a sudden the whale started shaking left to right and he spat the guy out back into the water. The guy is in hospital and is recovering from a soft tissue injury but tells the newspaper that he will be back in the water as soon as he heals.
